Privacy Policy

Summexa is a Chrome extension that turns a YouTube video into a written summary. This policy explains exactly what leaves your browser when you use it, where it goes, and what it is used for. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

When you open the Summexa sidebar on a video, the extension sends a single value to our server: the YouTube video ID from the page you are already on, the same identifier visible in the page URL after v=.

If you use the "Open in Harkixsha" button, the extension additionally sends the full transcript of that video to our backend, so it can be handed to Harkixsha AI as context for your conversation. See "Third-Party Services" below for details.

Your browser also sends its IP address as part of any normal network request, which our server uses briefly to apply rate limiting and prevent abuse. It is not stored alongside the video ID or the resulting summary, and it is not used to build any profile of you.

The extension does not read your browsing history, your Google account, your watch history, or anything else present on the page or in your browser.

To produce a summary, our backend calls a small number of third-party services on your behalf. Each one receives only what it needs to do its job:

We do not sell, rent, or share any of this data with advertisers or data brokers.

The extension uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) for exactly one thing: a counter of how many summaries you have generated today, used to enforce a daily free-usage limit. That counter stays on your device, is never sent to our servers, and resets automatically each day.

Beyond that counter, the extension does not use persistent storage. The summary itself is kept in memory only for as long as the sidebar is open, and that memory is cleared the moment you close the tab, close the sidebar, or move to a different video.

Summexa has no sign in, no user accounts, and no persistent user identifier of any kind. There is no analytics or telemetry built into the extension. The daily usage counter described above stays on your device and is never transmitted to us, so we still have no way to tell how often you use it, which videos you summarize over time, or who you are.

This website does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics such as Google Analytics. Standard web server access logs may be kept briefly by the hosting provider for security purposes, and are not used for marketing or profiling.

When a video needs the slower transcription fallback, our backend temporarily stores a record of that request, its status, and the resulting summary, so the extension can poll for progress. These records are keyed by a random request identifier, not by any personal identifier, and are periodically cleared.

We do not retain a permanent history of which videos you have summarized.

When you use "Open in Harkixsha", the uploaded transcript file is kept on our server for up to 24 hours and then automatically deleted.

Summexa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has contacted us with personal information, email us and we will remove it promptly.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
